2016’s Battlefield 1 was a refreshing revisit to the first World War that introduced new elements to the genre. Battlefield V refines some of those features, but doesn’t break any new innovative ground. It has enough content to keep you occupied, possesses a decent progression system that keeps you invested, and will receive free future DLC without a whiff of loot crates or microtransactions. However, it follows an expected blueprint that may quickly grow stale for players looking for a fresh FPS experience.

Battlefield V is another fun entry in this well established shooter series. The problem is that it's full of bugs and feels unfinished at launch.

Who knew that the horrors of war could ultimately end up being so goddamn beautiful?

Ripe with potential but riddled with problems, the new Battlefield will be brilliant six months from now. Right now, however, it’s merely a good shooter. [Issue#157, p.83]

EA and DICE seem to have lost sight of what made this series a true contender for the FPS crown, and both the gameplay and the content are suffering as a result.

DICE almost always delivers when it comes to technology and multiplayer gameplay, and this is true with BFV. But Battlefield V is also plagued with bugs, looks half-finished and, overall, it gives the impression of a product that was rushed to the market.

A game that aspires to be both a legitimate portrayal of war and an entertaining video game, but opts to take the easy route and do rid with any semblance of mature, balanced storytelling and instead replaces it with a rushed, disjointed campaign and a multiplayer component that’s getting seriously long in the tooth.

Despite all the controversy, the game is very good.
I think games should be evaluated as games.

BF4 runs 4K nearly maxed out with a 2070, looks amazing, overall it's a very nice improved WWII version of BFI, with a lot of visual / UI / gameplay improvements. Overall satisfied despite the critiques.
Totally satisfied for what I paid (around 40€)
I put only 9/10 because it's not as much impressive as BF1 was by the time it came out.

COD is running in low/medium at 45fps, has a lot of micro-freeze, and look visually like a modded version of MWII. The menus, music, and characters models and animations look like a cheap korean F2P game.
I can't enjoy the "fun" gameplay because it's unplayable at 4K despite my 16 cores + RTX 2070.
Maxed out in 1080p it looks like crap with aliasing despite having it maxed out, visual glitches, lags, strange effects, soft textures.

It's frustrating to see streamers "enjoy" it with nice visuals while I can't even play the game properly. It look like we don't have the same game.

I'm bashing COD as much as I'm sure I can feel activision's fist tickling my internal organs.

Battlefield has always been my multiplayer shooter of choice. I played hundreds (and hundreds) of hours of Battlefield Bad Company 2 andBattlefield has always been my multiplayer shooter of choice. I played hundreds (and hundreds) of hours of Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, didn't really love 4, thought 1 was heading back on the right track, and now V comes along and it's the worst I can remember.
I realize that games change and evolve and now single-player campaigns take a back (or non-existent) seat to the multiplayer, but the missions here feel like an afterthought. Also, no co-op?
The core of the multiplayer action is still really great, which is why I scored it a five. I love the squad dynamics, and the sights and sounds are just amazing. Play this game with nice headphones on, it's a treat.
However those graphics and sound are paired with abyssal load times. Multiple load screens go by, and often I think the game has frozen, that's how long they take. Even things that should be quick, like exiting a game, take way too long.
On top of that, the matches take FOREeeeeeVER. Way too long. Even if I'm having a great game and on the winning side, it still gets old. For me, fifteen minutes tops is max length for a match, not forty plus. Often the battle will be lopsided, so you'll know you're going to lose for a solid ten minutes of play. I miss the mid-match events in Battlefield 1 to try and sway momentum back, like the zeppelin and armored train.
Corners were cut all over; The character options are wafer thin. You're either a man or a supermodel, Brit or Nazi. I liked how they used various character options in Battlefield 1 depending on the theater of war, but here it's always Brits vs Nazis, and they use the same guns. Honestly it feels like a free-to-play game in terms of characters.
Overall this sadly follows the trend of AAA games being rushed out to deadline even though they're half-baked. This isn't a $60 game, it should be $30, tops.
