The developer has refined and perfected the combat. It kept its silliness in tact. It kept in the darker themes and deep moments of self-reflection that we all need every once in awhile. It’s, quite frankly, the best Kingdom Hearts game Square Enix has ever created.

Kingdom Hearts is one of those games that has a lot to offer but how much you get out of it will depend on how much you put in. There is of course the main quest which in and of itself will give you hours upon hours of joy and no doubt a touch of nostalgia for some of us here and there. But then there are all the mini games and collectable elements… or just the fun of taking a selfie with Goofy or Donald in the middle of one of the familiar movie landscapes. It’s a great use of the Disney characters and imagining of the locations that should entertain young and old… it does in our house.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is every bit as magical as expected. It manages to set the bar high for games in 2019 with its nostalgia-inducing Disney worlds, great gameplay and epic conclusion. The long wait is finally over and fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Kingdom Hearts III brings the entire series to a climax and serves as a satisfying conclusion to the Dark Seeker saga. New additions to combat like attractions and Keyblade transformations are wonderful spectacles, and the worlds you venture to are some of the best ever in the franchise. Though some of its story may be lost on those who haven’t kept up, it rewards those who have stuck with it over the years. It may have a been a long time coming, but Kingdom Hearts III delivers on its promises, and it’s easily the best game in the series.

Kingdom Hearts 3 succeeds in the difficult task of living up to expectations without shaking up its foundations but improving on the strengths of the previous chapters. Spectacular in its artistic direction, exhilarating in its fights and fulfilling on the narrative side, to be fully appreciated Kingdom Hearts 3 requires, however, that its public is aware of the intricate background of the saga. After waiting for so many years, recommending the last adventure of Sora, Donald and Goofy would only be a negligible formality.

This is it, the epic, emotional and satisfying conclusion to one of gaming's most beloved series. Kingdom Hearts III is everything we could had hoped for (and even more), but its biggest achievement is that, even by today's standards, it's a one of a kind experience that can only be described using one word: magic.

While not perfect, Kingdom Hearts III is the game I’ve been waiting for. After finishing it, I was delighted by how satisfied I was with the journey. I traversed worlds with some of my favorite Disney characters, persevered through challenging boss battles, and saw a triumphant finale that only makes me more excited for the future. The series still has a lot of heart, and that’s what makes it so endearing.

Kingdom Hearts III is a love letter to fans and the perfect end to a saga seventeen years in the making. Backed by a strong cast of characters and a near-perfect combat system, Sora and friends' final journey is sure to please both new and old fans alike.

Bottom line, if you are a fan of the series you’ll have to play this one as well (if you haven’t already). But you can also jump in without much knowledge of previous games. That in itself says a lot. Good job Square Enix.

A grand finale that summarizes one of the most legendary waits for a video game sequel - ever, and really does a fine job! Kingdom Hearts III is a complex yet perfectly lite experience story-wise, packed with amazing combat and adorable worlds and characters. It is a game that lives up to the Kingdom Hearts name and is something you should not miss, whether you are a long term fan or new to the franchise.

Each of the Disney worlds completely captures the magic of the movies, plucking the heartstrings and embracing the nostalgia. This is exactly what fans of the series wanted and, best of all, somehow, someway, all the crazy plot threads are dragged together, kicking and screaming, into an utterly satisfying conclusion. The prospect of Kingdom Hearts III being the end of the road is a sad one. Sora's tale may be over, but there are so many other Disney worlds left to explore. The world needs a Moana level with Mau'i helping to take on a huge Tamatoa boss. Wreck it Ralph deserved its own levels, as did The Incredibles, and so many more. Here's hoping, one day, Kingdom Hearts will return.

Kingdom Hearts III is big, bold and beautiful. The game delivers on almost all fronts: from the charming and faithfully crafted Disney worlds, to the engaging and extremely varied gameplay. Some aspects are still a little confounding, and the game is clearly not meant for newcomers, but returning fans will find exactly what they've been waiting for here.

Kingdom Hearts III is exactly the sequel it should be. Despite the absurdly long production time, it manages to hit all the right notes and feel like a satisfying and enjoyable conclusion to Square Enix's most confusing story. It's charming, it's funny, it's emotional, and it's a boatload of fun to play. It has its flaws, including a low difficulty level and a borderline incoherent story, but they're not enough to detract from the enjoyment of Sora's big adventure with Donald and Goofy.

The game’s breakneck finale—when it eventually does get there—makes up for everything: It makes up for the series’ confusing plot; it makes up for the fact that it takes nearly a whole day’s worth of playtime to reach that moment; it makes up for the hokey stuff about believing in your friends and, golly gosh, light will save the day.

Kingdom Hearts III plays similarly to its PS2 predecessors while bringing new elements to the gameplay that make it feel incredibly modern. Each of the seven Disney worlds bring a truly magical experience, and the combat underlines this thanks to the addition of some new, truly spectacular moves. The convoluted overarching story sometimes gets in the way of the wonder and charm, but ultimately, KH3 has enough heart to keep you coming back for more.

A true tribute to the fans of the saga, this episode traces the end of Sora's journey through the exploration of new worlds, more beautiful and vast than in the past, with a strong respect for the Disney worlds from which it is inspired. The closing act left me in tears as revelations I’ve been waiting over 13 years for finally came to fruition. I’ve grown up with these characters and the myriad worlds they inhabit, and knowing this could be their final adventure is a bittersweet pill to swallow. If you have warm feelings for Disney characters and worlds, this is perhaps the best game ever, but even if you don't have a real connection with The Mouse House, Kingdom Hearts 3 still offers a fantastic action adventure. Took Square 13 years to make this, but it shows.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is already one of the best games for me personally in 2019. Because of the childhood memories, the staging, the fun fights and the great mix of epic square fantasy and the winking Disney style. Besides, it just makes me happy to beat the styled, overpowering villains with a cactus.

For all the new in Kingdom Hearts 3, there is plenty of the old too. The action combat is more satisfying than it's ever been, even if it's a tad easy to skate through the main storyline. For longtime fans of the series, all those emotional payoffs that have been building for 17 years await. Kingdom Hearts III takes the series to astonishing new heights. With exhilarating combat, fantastic Disney worlds and a smart approach to an unavoidably convoluted story, it does everything it needs to not only please hardcore fans but anyone up for a solid action JRPG. I thoroughly enjoyed Square Enix’s evolution of Kingdom Hearts’ gameplay and fidelity to Disney’s beloved animated movies. While the storytelling could use some punching up, Square has done a fantastic job of capturing the spirit of these worlds while giving us a massive toolbox for battles and exploration. Even as I watched the dust settle on the story I wanted to jump right back in to collect everything. But to see all of the events of the Kingdom Hearts games so far culminate is, frankly, weird. Having been given so much time to ruminate, its specific resolutions aren’t all that surprising, but only a marginal impact is lost as a result. I still loved seeing so many characters from throughout this series interact in new ways and rekindle old bonds. It’s nice to see that, even so long after the very first game, Kingdom Hearts 3 is so full of heart.

I've gotten some sense of closure after the credits rolled in Kingdom Hearts 3 and it wasn't quite what I wanted, but that doesn't make it unworthy of being experienced. It's hard to say this game was worth the long wait, as the story is still a mess, but Square-Enix showed some real love in crafting this experience. Kingdom Hearts III is an amazing yet flawed game made for the most die-hard fans of the series. While newcomers can still enjoy the quick-paced gameplay, the extremely complicated story will surely leave them bewildered. Even if you understand so little of it, prepare to embrace the wacky and bizarre nature of Kingdom Hearts III with an open-mind and it will be a fun ride.

After so many years Kingdom Hearts III needed to be a strong send-off for the series, and for the most part, it is. The gameplay is still top tier and encourages diving back in once the credits have rolled to track down missed items and a secret boss. The individual worlds are gorgeous, and deserve to be combed through for every last scrap of treasure. It’s just a shame that plot stumbles over itself so many times because it really does drag the game down, but if I turn off the analytical part of my brain just enough, there truly is something special here.

Kingdom Hearts III may be a hack and slash, with a few RPG elements sprinkled in, but at its heart, it’s a weird adventure like nothing that you’ve ever played. It makes no sense, but once you’re in the groove things start to get into focus. When the game is over, you’re left with a strange feeling of completions and melancholy, and that should be proof enough that you’ve experienced something worthwhile.
  56. Despite all of important missing features, Kingdom Hearts 3 is following the former games footsteps. If you like the JRPG genre and Disney movies, the game contains all the thing you like to see. But if you are not JRPG type of gamer, stay away as far as you can.

Disney's magic returns in the latest iteration of Kingdom Hearts, an adventure that is well worth your time. The story is interesting enough. Graphics are beautifully realized and the special attacks are fantastic. At the same time the audio feels like it's a bit out of sync and the gameplay feels like a throwback to previous Kingdom Hearts games. Kingdom Hearts 3 at its core is just good fun. It has a messy story to tie up but does a good job of it for the most part. There’s nothing quite like Kingdom Hearts. It’s like the most elaborate fan fiction of the Disney universe – a digital walkthrough of the movies with a loosely connective narrative tissue that just doesn’t matter much when all is said and done. Kingdom Hearts III tries, and its meticulously-recreated Disney worlds, jam-packed combat system, and wealth of minigames offer a ton for players to explore. Kingdom Hearts III is most assuredly one for the fans. For those who have enjoyed the past entries, the issues have already proven themselves to be readily surmountable and the way the game wraps up the lingering plot points will be very much appreciated. However, for those who haven’t yet been sold on the series, it’s a much more varied proposition. The disconnect between the final quarter and the rest of the game is jarring, and the gameplay, while certainly enjoyable, doesn’t offer much to distinguish itself from many other action RPGs.

Perhaps it was inevitable that after such a long time, the conclusion to this story would ring slightly hollow, even rather facile, after all the prior build-up. I’ve been through 13 years of life, but it turns out that Sora got to skip all of that. Kingdom Hearts III plays it extremely safe, ultimately banking on nostalgia and delivering more of the same. Absolutely everyone who was alive to play the other games is different now, and that's not a bad thing. I love the idea of this game being able to float me back into a time where I could cheer for Mickey Mouse without feeling silly and cry because Naminé was lonely. That feeling alone is worth the box price on Kingdom Hearts III.

Kingdom Hearts isn’t simple anymore; it isn’t just joy and bright colors and Disney heroes. Instead, the conclusion of this story is tangled up in so many conflicting threads, each one a heavy burden on its hero, whose smile now feels unnerving. Kingdom Hearts 3 is an example of what can go wrong when a series that once stood in contrast to its peers as a lighthearted alternative loses its way.

Viewed in 2019, there’s a noxious sense that a game like Kingdom Hearts III is a victory lap for a corporation so successful at absorbing its business competitors that it’s almost completely dominated the minds of global audiences, especially those of a tender age.

Yes, it’s more total nonsense from a story perspective. As a game? Well, it’s a ton of bloody fun, because it’s a very good game.

After playing through all of Kingdom Hearts III, I’m still not sure whether it’s a good place to start for newcomers. It plays well, looks amazing, and there are a lot of great moments for Disney fans. But so much of that is buried beneath lengthy cutscenes that explain little, and halfhearted gameplay modes that don’t add anything to the experience. There’s just so much of everything, most of it unnecessary, and the game makes few, if any, real concessions to new players. That said, I’m not entirely convinced I would understand things any better even if I had actually played all of the previous games.

It’s a game that dazzles with its recreation of popular Disney properties yet struggles with pacing and faces the unenviable task of wrapping up years and year of storytelling in a way that will satisfy long-time fans. [Road to Review]

Kingdom Hearts 3, through its subpar plot delivery and frustrating combat, disappoints in a way that is not surprising. It’s a game that, as one of many with a strong emotional bond to the series, gives you what you wanted, even if it is a decade or so late. But whether you still want it is the real question.

Kingdom Hearts III is an absolute disaster. I loved every minute of it.

tldr: For KH fans, I fully recommend this game - it's only a 9/10 b/c of some small things
For non-KH fans, play the other games first, then come back to this one :) Or, of course, just skip it entirely.

After finishing the main story, and briefly beginning the post-game content, I can safely say that this game has met, but not exceeded, my expectations of what Kingdom Hearts 3 was going to be.

That being said, Kingdom Hearts 3 is a fantastic game, that also has its flaws.

With regards to story, it has some problems; for example, the game doesn't weave the KH storyline with the Disney world storyline together throughout the game as smoothly as KH2 did, opting to more cleanly dedicate the first 60-70% of the game to Disney stories and VERY little to KH story. But in the end, I was ultimately satisfied with the way they ended the Xehanort arc, and if you're a Kingdom Hearts fan, I'm confident you will be too! There are some SERIOUS epic fan-service moments in this game where I got up on my feet and cheered.

Gameplay-wise, bad news first, this game has some issues in two regards: (1) the game is somewhat on the easy side, even by Kingdom Hearts standards, and (2) the overall amount of side-quests and things to do outside the main story seem a bit lacking compared specifically to Kingdom Hearts 2.

(1): I've never thought of the KH games as being the most challenging games, and generally thought of them all as being easy (even on Proud or Critical mode), with the exception of some of the International/Final Mix post-game content/bosses, and of course, if you choose to do a Lvl 1 run. But Kingdom Hearts 3 takes the easy gameplay, and ramps it up even more. They crammed almost all the "Triangle"-mechanics from other KH games, or something similar, into this one as well, like shotlock, keyblade/form-changes , attractions, link summons, and your standard companion combo moves. Having all these moves at your disposal makes a lot of fights trivially easy; you simply have too much in your arsenal for any enemy, even bosses, to pose much of a threat. Like I said, I've never gone into a KH game expecting a Dark Souls experience or anything like that (nor do I WANT it to be that), but I definitely would have wanted a LITTLE more challenge in the standard-play combat. I did my initial run on Proud mode too, so between that and a pure Lvl 1 run, it would have been nice to see the a difficulty level somewhere in the middle.

(2): The dedication to side-quests and optional battles seems to be have been toned down in this game. The notion of completing the side-quests in KH3 doesn't feel nearly as compelling as completing the Jiminy Journal in KH2 felt. So I wish there was more as far as side-quest content. But given that this isn't the International/Final Mix version, maybe that will be rectified later with such a release, or maybe DLC (which, to be clear, wouldn't be that bad - this game is fully worth the $60 price tag as it is, in my opinion, so it's NOT a "developer skimping on content with the intention of gutting us for DLC" situation).

    Now for the good stuff!

As easy as the combat has become because of things highlighted above, it's still FUN. AS. HECK. Swinging the keyblade, transforming it into all manners of other kinds of weapons, casting extra-flashy, next-gen graphics spells, and just the overall graphical design overhaul the game has gotten makes every fight a truly beautiful spectacle to behold. The Keyblade you ultimately decide to use also dictates your fighting style to an extent, and there are a few different weapons variations to try out. You feel like an absolute boss when you destroy every mob of bad guys, and while not very challenging, fighting is still extremely satisfying.

The addition of Pixar/3D Disney worlds was definitely welcome indeed! Seeing Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Tangled characters as part of the Kingdom Hearts cast was something I'd wanted for a long time, and they pulled it off flawlessly. The worlds themselves have also received much of a graphical overhaul, and now feature much larger, richer areas to explore (honestly, sometimes too large - hunting down treasure chests has ironically become SO much more difficult now because of how detailed the worlds have become!). And the addition of some scattered, fully-voiced, NPCs throughout the non-Heartless-infested areas of some of the worlds makes them feel that much more alive.

As for the story, if you're a KH fan, you will LOVE, at the very least, the last 30-40% of the game - as implied earlier, in true KH fashion they save most of the juicy stuff for the last few chapters of the game, but it is so well worth it, I didn't even care. Epic moments, team-ups, battles, and conclusions to so many character arcs, the final moments of this game will truly be a joy to play through if you've followed the story so far
