Fallout 76 takes a brave step forward in a risky multiplayer proposal, but due to its unclear intentions and a poor performance overall it will need time and effort to please its fans.

Fallout 76 fails at many things, but its core gameplay still is fun and engaging. This is enough to keep you going, but it is not what you would expect from an online-based AAA, and even if all the bugs can be fixed, there are many things (combat, mission design, inventory system) that would be much harder to fix.

Fallout 76 is fun to play; the simple loop of scavenging and exploration and crafting and progression works well when you’re in a group. Alone, it gets pretty old pretty fast - especially when dealing with bugs and glitches and performance woes. Ultimately it’s disappointing that the size and scope of the multiplayer doesn’t match the impressive West Virginia you get to explore.

A fascinating world and several good ideas are ruined by lots of technical problems and some design choices that make Fallout 76 almost unplayable. When it works, it can really shine; but this happens very rarely at the moment.

We tried so hard to like Fallout 76, but the game didn’t allow us to do it.
  6. I can’t recommend Fallout 76 to more than a handful of people. A niche few will still be drawn to it, perhaps out of curiosity, a completionist’s need to devour all things Fallout, or, like me, a morbid desire to simulate life after the end of the world. For everyone else, hold onto the hope that Bethesda learns a lesson from this failed experiment.

There are no redeeming features to be found in Fallout 76, and I’m not even sure if it can be saved. Technical issues just make what’s a boring and soulless experience at its core into something that’s simply more of an abomination.

There are many bugs but this is a Bethesda game so sadly that is to be expected. I've played probably 15 hours including beta time and it has been one of the best game experiences I've ever had. Ignore the zero reviews, it's just entitled brats that are mad its not New Vegas 2. I will say playing with a group is way more enjoyable than playing solo. Expand

The freedom I have on the quests is the differential for me, something I do not have with Red Dead 2. Some glitches made me very upset. I can not get out of the armor. I had to spend the battery, fusion core, to finally get out of the armor. But all the fun, the freedom, the challenges, the constant improvement of the character and weapons, resource management, solutions to inventory constraints, perk and skills, discoveries, use online sessions with intelligence (respawn, news friends, renew universe), the giant and beautiful universe, hundreds of interrelated missions, find or buy plans for camp objects and new weapons, everything else is too exciting. The glitches therefore have solutions. Fascinating this game. I'm on level 45 and more and more excited. Goodbye Red Dead 2. Expand

I've not been a fan of the fallout games for very long, my passion for these great games and their interesting setting started in 2013, when II've not been a fan of the fallout games for very long, my passion for these great games and their interesting setting started in 2013, when I discovered Fallout 3, within moments of playing , I was in love with the series, and played New Vegas and 3 to death, even played 2 for a while. When I heard 4 was coming, I exploded with excitement, I was so happy the day I had Fallout 4 in my hands I could have died. Fallout 4 was a good game in my opinion, I was only slightly disappointed about minor changes. It was my least favourite I had played so far, but I still loved it.

But anyway, this year, when the 76 trailer dropped, I again, was ecstatic, I stayed up until 3 in the morning (Despite the fact I had exams next day) waiting for any news on 76, and I was really disappointed, but optimistic. I got the power armour edition this Monday, I had played some BETA, and the helmet etc was amazing, but, when holding the little steel book which the game was held in, I wasn't excited. Here's the pros and cons.

(This is what ive gathered from my 8 hours BETA playtime, and my 5 hours full game time)

    Pros:
Finally, a wasteland I can explore with my friends! (if my friends bought this game and weren't warning me about how crap the game was going to be)

    New lore! New places!

Meet new fellow Fallout fans! (Or a bunch of 10 year olds with all the spare time in the world to get power armour, new powerful guns etc, and trample over you when you say ''Hello!'')

(thats about all I can think of for pros)

    Negatives:

Fallout is a Role playing game, you cannot have this without exchange of dialogue. You cannot communicate with anything in game (Grafton Mayor for example) Though Fallout 4's 'Sarcastic' or 'No' dialogue options were lackluster, lazy and bad? Well, Now you cannot speak to anything in game, unless its another player, and theres a 99% they have no microphone, so you have to communicate with emotes. Weak.

Alone. You NEED a friend with a microphone to enjoy this game, otherwise its so lonely and deprived of any substance.

You need so many Caps its unholy. Whats that? You want to fast travel? 16 caps please. Whats that? you want this workshop? 60 caps please. You got killed? bye bye caps! In previous Fallouts, there were caps everywhere, and everything was free. Now I feel like Ebeneezer Scrooge, 'Do I pay 36 caps to teleport there, or do I walk?'

Brain dead story. With no Npcs to play with, your rely on the odd robot or holotape to tell you where to go, or to get an item. Boring fetch quests. Really Bethesda?

Welcome to Little Lamplight! Kids galore. Kids with no mics, roaming around in gangs, killing as they please because they have a **** ton of spare time to level up, get op guns armour etc. Anyone under 14, please go back to Fortnite. This game is suffering enough without sweaty children roaming the map.

Bugs are a huge problem, whether its textures loading painfully slowly (Fallout 3 looks like a work of art in comparison) or the servers lagging, or just some visual bug (A texture not loading for example) Bugfest 76 is full of glitches.

So much more. Vats, settlements, perk cards etc. I could go on for ages.

To summarise, what made Fallout great was its setting, and its genre. RPG. This Fallout is a shadow of its former self, if anything, this makes me want to just go play Fallout 4 again, to be reminded of what fallout is. This may be a good, fun MMO game, but its not a good Fallout Game.
I look forward to Fallout 5, four years away, with a mix of fear, and hope.

Seriously, just buy Fallout 3, 4 and New vegas and all the DLC's sor a fraction of the price, you will have a much better Fallout experience, wait until this thing is in the bargain bin, then you might consider buying it.

(The elder scrolls online was **** Bethesda, take a hint, Turning RPG story driven single player games and turning them into money grabbing, low common denominator sellout MMO's doesn't work.)

There is a reason why a lot of people cancelled pre-orders of thisThere's a reason this game wasn't fully shown off before it was released. There is a reason why a lot of people cancelled pre-orders of this too. This game is not fit for release. Constant bugs mean you can't finish quests, or simply play the game, no joke, I've never played a game so buggy.

The gameplay experience with other players is for the majority of the time good, everyone tends to help each other, but obviously the style of the game means people will be constantly at you too, 2 or more against one is hopeless and you can just watch any effort you've put in be destroyed. You only have a "camp" and a very small area and budget to build something, this is the only thing that remains when you log off the server. All other captured bases and structures are gone instantly.

There is no real story, the game feels dead inside with the lack of life and only robots you can "interact" with but no more than pushing a button for a random quote from them. This game is horribly disappointing. The only way this game could be redeemed some what would be if I could have the Fallout world to myself and my friends, not every random moron or give me the option of having players attack me or not (excluding captured base areas). Was it really that difficult to make a game that would have suited a wider audience? Not a minority.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I should have waited to see gameplay vids come out before purchasing this piece of crap, and that's on me. I was so excited for this game so I admit I rushed into the purchase with the utmost optimism. I loved the Fallout franchise because of the interesting storylines, engaging characters, and character perk options. This game falls completely short of the mark with its forced mmo play style. It is clear to me that this was a cash grab for Bethesda and I will not be making the mistake of preordering games from them in the future. If you like mindless shooters with absolutely no story and **** graphics, then this game is for you. I personally play games for the escapism aspect and this game is completely lacking there. There seems to be no real point to this game, "quests" disappear when you die, and you have to pay caps to respawn in less than convenient locations. No, I am not a bot, or someone paid to write a bad review...I am in fact an unhappy customer who wasted way too much money on this garbage game. Maybe Bethesda should actually take customer satisfaction into account instead of pointing the finger at the bad reviews and saying "fake news". Expand
